"A sign, poster, newspaper headline, label or any piece of printed matter, such as a letter or report, should be given an upbeat effect by positioning it in the frame so that it slopes up-hill - that is from lower left to upper right. This treatment is essential when two or more lines must be read, because the eye has a tendency to drop down to read the next line. If the printed material is sloped downward (from upper left to lower right) the eye is forced to move up to read the next line. Such unnatural eye movements will distress the viewer."
