The 14 issues of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY leading up to historic #97 all had the same format: a 13 page Thor story (half the time with Kirby art) followed by a 5 page fantasy story drawn by anybody but Kirby or Ditko and finishing up with a Lee/Ditko 5 page fantasy.

With issue #97 Lee/Kirby decided to double down on connecting their creation with the Mythic Thor. The series inspired these top creators to produce some of their best work.

Even though he wasn't on the cover Thor appeared in AVENGERS #45

Continuity was King during the Lee/Thomas Era of Marvel Comics. Lee most likely polished panel 4 of this page since it references a plot that he had provided to Kirby.

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #121's Tales of Asgard episode was the only one in the series to open with two consecutive full-panel pages.

It was also the first episode that Kirby didn't design any new characters for.

Stan Lee establishes the Enchanters as Odin's equals by having Sif explain "Their power most foul comes from far beyond the Realm... and is said to be the equal of Odin's own!"

Kirby visually shows the same by giving them the third full-pager of the 16 page THOR #143 lead story.

MOST UNUSUAL THOR LINE EVER!?

5 YEARS AGO TODAY: the last of the 19 variant Thor covers inspired by iconic movie posters arrived at the stores.

AVENGERS ACADEMY #13 boasted the second Thor Hollywood Variant Cover by Amanda Conners. According to THOR GOES HOLLYWOOD adding Sif and the Enchantress to the composition was her idea. 

In 1962 Marvel published 134 comics. 89 of them had Kirby covers and 78 also had interior Kirby art totaling 1,167 pages.

Kirby's 15th consecutive cover for JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY hit the shops in the Fall of 1962.
