The second issue of THOR to have a John Romita cover.

After a monolog recap Thor spends THOR #170 engaged in battle with a giant robot that Lee/Kirby created in the previous issue. The Warriors Three assist him. 

Plus there is a 2 page sequence "many worlds away" featuring Karnilla and Loki having a non-violent spat. One of the rare issues that doesn't introduce any new characters.

If you hadn't read JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83  or  MARVEL TALES #1, it was your lucky day. Thor's origin was available for the third time.

Even if you had, it was still worth 12 cents to experience the 7 brand new pages of Kirby Thor art that bookended the reprint. This one was my personal favorite.

For the second time since Thor debuted, he made 2 appearances in the same month.

The cover and the 22 page story in AVENGERS #2 are drawn by Jack Kirby. First appearance of the Space Phantom.

The cover and the 5 page Tales of Asgard back-up (starring Ymir) in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #98 are drawn by Jack Kirby. The 13 page 1st appearance and origin of the Cobra (that's right - he was bitten by a radioactive snake) is drawn by Don Heck.

Kirby/Ayers did the cover and the 13 page Thor story that introduces a time-travelling villain from the weaponless 23rd century.

Except for the splash page the rest of pages used a multi-panel layout to portray the narrative. 

In 1962 Thor was a tool of the American Military Complex.
