It is NOT unusual for a THOR cover to deliver what it promises but having Thor and the Warriors Three fighting trolls is not setting the bar high.

But then to have writer Gerry Conway and cover artist John Buscema deliver this!!!

 

Neal Adams and Tom Palmer collaborate on the cover AND the 21 interior pages. Back then the white privilege hero versus hated-because-of-being-different hero plot was still fresh. Roy Thomas was the writer keepin' it real.

Thor's 16th appearance of the year.

This comic delivers what the cover promises. 19 pages of John Buscema definitively depicting Doom battling Thor for 14 of the 19 pages. 

    The conclusion of a two part story.

    Doesn't introduce any new characters.

    Doesn't have any splash pages.

What the cover promises 13 of the 20 pages inside delivers. Thor battling the Wrecker, drawn dynamically by Jack Kirby and Bill Everett.  The other 7 pages were devoted to Dr. Blake's contributions to the Civil Rights cause.

The only new Thor appearance for October 1968 was his 14th for the year. Cover by Jack Kirby & Vince Colletta, also the 20 page story.. 

It was a self-contained issue answering questions that had been avoided since Thor's debut.

The only new Thor appearance for October was his 13th for the year. It was the 10th Kirby-drawn Thor appearance of 1967. 

It was the 13th Kirby Thor/Loki cover, the 5th  embellished by Colletta. They also collaborated on the 16 page Thor story. There was a 5 page Kirby/Sinnot back-up featuring who-cares-it-wasn't-Thor.

Besides fighting the Man-Beast in the 16 page lead story, Thor also encounters the High Evolutionary and his Knights of Wundagore

And if that wasn't enough, in the 5 page Tales of Asgard back-up Thor battles a dragon. All art, including the cover was composed by Jack Kirby and embellished by Vince Colletta.
